🚀 Getting Started

DD Dive Calculator works out a dive’s total score from its degree of difficulty (DD) and the judges’ awards, the same way it’s calculated at a meet.

  1. Enter the DD for the dive (for example 2.4). The DD box is selected when the app opens, with a blinking cursor. The first time you open the app, a “Start here” tip points to it
  2. Enter each judge’s score: 2, 3, 5, or 7 judges (or 9 with the NCAA 9 switch on)
  3. Read the total: it updates as you type
  4. Tap AC to clear everything for the next dive

🏊 How Scoring Works

Judges Calculation
2 Both scores × DD. The diver’s final meet total is then multiplied by 1.5
3 All three scores × DD
5 Drop the highest and lowest, then the middle three × DD
7 Drop the two highest and two lowest, then the middle three × DD
9 (NCAA only) Drop the two highest and two lowest, then the middle five × 0.6 × DD

Two-judge meets: the ×1.5 is applied once, to the diver’s final total for the event, not to each dive. The app shows each dive’s score as it appears on the scoresheet (for example, DD 2.3 with scores 6.5 and 6 is 12.5 × 2.3 = 28.75) and notes “×1.5 in the final total (2-judge meet)” underneath.

Nine judges: turn on the NCAA 9 switch above the judges’ scores to add boxes for judges 8 and 9. The setting is remembered until you turn it off. The 0.6 (three-fifths) factor keeps a nine-judge score on the same scale as a three-judge score.

Example (5 judges, DD 2.4): scores 6.5, 7, 7, 7.5, 8. Drop 6.5 and 8, so 7 + 7 + 7.5 = 21.5, and 21.5 × 2.4 = 51.60.

Totals are shown to two decimal places. Dropped scores are shown struck through, so you can see which ones counted.

❓ Common Questions

Why don’t I see a total? Check that you’ve entered a DD and exactly 2, 3, 5, or 7 scores (or 9 with NCAA 9 on). With 4 or 6 scores there is no standard way to drop high and low scores, so the app waits for you to add or remove one.

Why won’t a number go in? The app only accepts valid entries: DD from 1.0 to 4.9, and scores from 0 to 10 in half points. For example, 7.3 or 11 can’t be entered as a score. You’ll feel a short vibration when an entry is rejected.

Can I type a DD like 0.9 or 5.0? No. Competition DDs fall between 1.0 and 4.9, so the calculator only accepts that range.

Does the app save my dives? No. The app is a quick calculator: dives aren’t saved or uploaded. Tap AC to start the next dive.

Why is my two-judge dive score lower than I expected? Under NCAA rules the 1.5 multiplier for two judges is applied to the final meet total, not to each dive, so each dive score matches the official scoresheet.

Does the app need internet access? No. It works fully offline, on the pool deck or anywhere else.

Does it work in dark mode? Yes. The app follows your device’s light or dark setting.

Why doesn’t the app rotate? The calculator is designed for one-handed use in portrait, so it stays upright when you turn your phone.

Can I use it on an iPad or Android tablet? Yes. On iPad it runs in an iPhone-sized window, and on Android tablets it shows the same phone-sized layout in the center of the screen.

📚 Rules Sources

The calculator follows these published rules:

Rules can change from season to season. If your meet uses a local variation, your meet referee’s scoresheet is the final word.
